TAB in Chicago – 2/19/10

Trey brought his Classic TAB band to Chicago last night for a long and jam-packed show at The Riviera Theater. The first set concluded with a 4 show Trey solo acoustic segment as he has been doing over the past week of the tour. This time, Trey dusted off Phish staples Brian and Robert, Driver, Sample In A Jar, and Wilson for the acoustic treatment. The second set was straightforward heavy-duty Trey Band ragin’ fun with jam-favorites Dragonfly, Night Speaks, Sand, Mr. Completely, and Last Tube making appearances along with a cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Black Dog’ to end the set. Setlist, downloads, and pics below, enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Threesome

For Valentine’s day this year, let’s all enjoy a menage a trois of jammy goodness. Trey and Classic TAB lit up the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, while Furthur channeled the ghosts of 5/8/77 in a special Barton Hall performance, and at the same time way out in Colorado – Gov’t Mule raged on a mountain in Aspen. Quite the evening all across this funky land, enjoy setlists, pics, downloads, and streams below from all three shows!

Trey Anastasio Band (Classic TAB) Tour Preview

The first Phish-related action of the year kicks of tomorrow as Trey Anastasio takes his so-called ‘Classic TAB’ band out on tour for a month of shows across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast. As you may remember, Trey re-united the original 4-piece Trey Anastasio Band (Trey, Russ Lawton (Drums), Tony Markellis (Bass), and Ray Paczkowski (Keys)) in the Fall 0f 2008 for an 8-show run. This time around, Trey will add to the 4-man core with a tight 3-piece horn section featuring Russell Remington (Tenor Sax/Flute), Jennifer Hartswick (Trumpet) and newcomer Natalie Cressman (Trombone), who replaces her father, Jeff Cressman.

TAB - 10/18/08

This highly anticipated tour is sure to feature material from throughout Trey’s solo career, Trey Band/Phish classics like ‘Sand’,'First Tube’, ‘Gotta Jibboo’, and ‘Backwards Down The Number Line’, as well as a wide selection of choice covers. Check out this Hidden Track article that takes a look at some classic Trey tunes that may be brought out on this tour. Also, give this recent interview a read where Trey talks about the upcoming tour.

In honor of the Classic TAB tour, check out this video from Bonnaroo 2001 of Trey’s big ‘Dectet’ band performing ‘Push On Til The Day’. The Band’s Bonnaroo performance goes down in history as one of Trey Band’s finest as well as one of the all-time best Bonnaroo performances to date. Enjoy!

And We’re Back!

Hey y’all,

As I’m sure all WTN readers out there are all too aware, we all need a hiatus sometimes. Well, Welcome To Now is no different. But we’re back, rested and fired up for Welcome To Now 2.0. Coming soon, we’ll be looking back at some of the amazing music that has transpired over the past few months, and looking forward to live coverage of upcoming Winter/Spring tours from Trey Anastasio Band, Furthur, The Allman Brothers Band, The Disco Biscuits, and many more.

So strap in, welcome to now, and let’s get this show (back) on the road!

Trey Anastasio Band to Tour in Feb. 2010?

Check out the screenshot below taken from a concert booking site – according to which Trey will be going on the road solo early in 2010 with a few dates in the Midwest and Northeast. I’m sure the boys will be ready for a break after Fall and NYE 09′ and this will be a good chance for Trey and likely Mike to get some space and go solo for a bit.

Trey with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra – 5/21/09

Last night, Trey joined forces with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for the East Coast debut of Time Turns Elastic – his most recent orchestral composition. Big Red also offered up some phish classics such as First Tube, Pebbles and Marbles, and an If I Could encore. He let the Orchestra have their way with Divided Sky and Guyute – two pieces that lend themselves quite nicely to the orchestral setting. Overall, reviews coming in thus far are quite positive and the Phish community’s excitement level for the upcoming tour just went from 10 to 11.

Guitar Gods

Let’s give a nod to some of the greatest guitar players of our time: First, more from the L.A. Forum where the Dead layed down a solid showing last night. In this bootleg, Eric Clapton performs with Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana, and Keith Moon. This is a widely circulated and revered bootleg and is a must have for all collectors.

In this vid, Eric Clapton teams up with Jeff Beck for a blazing take of Sly and the Family Stone’s ‘I Want to Take You Higher’ at the Saitama Super Arena, Japan. They nail’ it – I’m amazed at Clapton’s guitar playing – he maintains a level of technical expertise unlike so many of the greats from his generation. Clapton is a true master of the trade:

Next Santana and Derek Trucks rip up the classic ‘Get out my Life Woman’, with a nice ‘Who Knows’ (Hendrix) tease thrown in for good measure. Santana goes fuckin’ nuts around the 6:00 minute mark – and I LIKE it! Derek Trucks stands up to the test and lays down some monster licks himself:

It wouldn’t be a guitar gods exhibit without Trey, so, check out this beautiful and euphoric Trey Anastasio Band performance from Bonnaroo 2002, Trey’s first time at Bonnaroo. This is the peak of Trey’s solo band career, a magical moment no doubt for band and audience alike. Trey is on top of his game, and the power of his 15 piece band is unbelieveable:

Lastly, Jimi Hendrix welcomes Jim Morrison as a special guest. Hendrix’s guitar playing is top notch and Morrison is clearly extremely intoxicated. All in all, quite an amusing and fun show:
