NYC Weekend Music Round-Up

Summertime And The Living Is Easy

Some recent additions to what is shaping up to be one of the most jam-packed summer concert seasons ever:

The Gathering Of The Vibes festival, held July 23-26 in Bridgeport, CT, added Crosby, Stills, and Nash to the already stellar line-up as the closing act on Sunday. If you haven’t been, this festival is deadhead heaven and, in this blogger’s opinon, the highlight of the Northeast festival season.

Gathering of the Vibes 2008

The Allman Brothers Band and Widespread panic announced a co-headlining tour for August and October of 2009. Thic tour promises to deliver a slew of guest appearances and cross-pollination between the bands. I can only imagine adding Jimmy Herring to the ABB arsenal to form a Haynes-Trucks-Herring trifecta.

The Disco Biscuits announced the first round of artists that will appear at this summer’s Camp Bisco 8, held July 16-18 in Mariaville, NY, including Nas and Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, STS9, Shpongle, Younger Brother, EOTO, OL, and many many more. The electronica-heavy festival continues to diversify its offering and keep things interesting.

Phish Nassau 03′

Let’s keep the hits right on coming with this classic Phish show from 2-28-03, Nassau Coliseum:

Bouncing Around The Room
Walls Of The Cave

Set 2
Tweezer >

Encore:

Tweeprise

I attended this monster show, widely regarded as one of the top 10 post-hiatus/Phish 2.0 shows. With the Destiny Unbound bustout, 30 minute Tweezer, Hood, Bowie, Gin, and Birds of a Feather, it’s not a suprise this show gets so much attention. The band lays down some of their most impressive and cohesive long improvisational jams of the later years, especially on Tweezer, Birds and Bowie.

The Dead started the day off with a morning appearance on the TV show ‘The View’ and offered up this take on Friend of the Devil with an alternate verse by Phil and only one vocal flub from Bobby:

The band then shuffled over to the Gramercy Theater for stop 3, with the the full band joining forces for the first time in the day. After a face-melting 20+ minute Playin’ opener, the band delivered a hit-filled performance featuring:
