Gov’t Mule kept things going last night with their second headlining performance up at Hunter Mountain. Another amazing looking show with some great covers and interwoven jam segments. Tonight, while the Allman Brothers Band closes things out at Hunter, Phish will be kicking thing off a few miles north up at Fenway Park for their summer tour. Summer is here and what a summer it will be musically!

Gov’t Mule – 5/29/09 – Mountain Jam Night 1

Mule’s getting things kicked off up at Hunter Mountain as we speak for the 5th annual Mountain Jam festival. Having been at the Mountain the past 2 years, I can personally testify to the standup job that Warren does putting this festi on. It truly is one of the top 3 NE festivals of the summer – I highly recommend you check it out if you get the opportunity.

Grateful Dead – Portland, ME – 4/01/85

Check this straight fire Dead show from spring of 85′. This AUD recording really captures the energy of the show and preserves it in its true form. Highlights include one of the best Rooster’s I’ve ever heard, a surprisingly tasty Bird Song, a beautiful Looks Like Rain, and a smokin’ Other One. Jerry’s guitar playing is in the zone – totally honed in, and Bobby’s rhythm playing in this show is some of the best I’ve heard from the man.

Phish Is Back

Phish is back. And they’re everywhere.

This week the band released their first single from their forthcoming album – Time Turns Elastic. This 13 minute introspective pop-jamrock-ballad definitely has some fun sections, a rocking refrain and some catchy melodies. While it’s no ‘David Bowie’, it’s no ‘Mexican Cousin’ either and I’m glad to see the band at least moving in a positive direction with their studio work. Check it out at the following links:

The boys set out on the road for their summer tour – their first tour in 5 years – this Sunday at Fenway Park in Boston. This is a historic show for the band, and their first real stadium gig ever. Fenway kicks off the following monster 2-leg summer tour:

For rumours about the album title, track list, and more, check out this wikipedia page. The excitment in the Phish community right now is potentially higher than any other time in the band’s history – let’s hope the band can run with it and blast off this summer. I’ll be there with an open ear, and open mind, and my dancin’ shoes laced high, ready to boogie down. Phish is back!

Jerry’s All-Stars

Check out this Jerry show from 72′ with an all-star cast featuring the late great organist Merl Saunders, bass-man extraordinaire John Kahn, and drum-master Billy K. from the Grateful Dead. This show is overflowing with energy, soul, funk, and straight top-notch playing. The setlist features classic cuts from The Beatles, Dylan, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye as well as rare Jerry Band tunes ‘Save Mother Earth’ and  ‘Lonely Avenue’. This bootleg is raw but crisp and really captures this performance intimately and nicely. Without further ado:
